The Day’s first visit to The Gather

When the owners of The Gather asked if I would write my thoughts down for their website, I felt a little nervous but so pleased to be able to say what I had seen. Not only that, they are such lovely people I just couldn’t say no, and luckily for them I have a big mouth and super quick fingers, so here goes.

The drive from the North West of England is indeed a very long one, however, the scenery along the way makes the journey very worthwhile. Once you pass the concrete jungle that is the wonderful Glasgow, stunning, absolutely stunning (so much so, my hubster won’t allow me to drive because I cannot keep my eyes on the road)! The loch’s make the Lake District look like a few wee puddles and the greenery, good grief it’s everywhere!

When we finally reached The Gather, we were made up, 360⁰ of sea, loch’s and greenery, a mental health, post pandemic lockdown wonder fix! Everywhere you look there is nature!

We arrived late and despite that we received a wonderful welcome from the owners Corrin and Phil. We had booked to glamp and had ordered a late platter with wine for arrival, we were not displeased! There were two platters; one cheese and one meat, not forgetting the lovely bottle of organic Malbec and a fruit shoot for my wee laddy, tasty OMG nom, nom, nom!

This is Eve, the owner’s daughter (beautiful, lovely young lady, very helpful and well mannered)

The pod was spacious and made up beautifully with a king and a single bed and a sofa (I should have taken a photo). The communal camp kitchen and bathrooms were exceptionally clean and since we had excellent weather the BBQ area came in very handy.

At night, the blanket of stars WOW! I have never in my 47 years experienced a sky like it, there is no light pollution or at least not that we noticed. My son who is 10 loved it, on clear nights you can see The Milky Way and a multitude of other constellations, not forgetting the shooting stars and satellites, you can see it all here.

After a fantastic nights sleep (beds are amazingly comfy) when we woke to the amazing bird song and deer chatter the first morning (another WOW moment) we were amazed, there is a Heron that lands in one of the two ponds at the front and regularly flies over,

we were also treated to a white tailed deer that ran right past us, stopped and stared for a couple of minutes and ran off, and then more as the weekend progressed. My son made friends easily with other glampers and the owners daughter Eve, and to be honest for the most part we didn’t notice he was with us (awful parents, I know lol).

We had breakfast in the café and once again nom, nom. It was presented beautifully and the staff, what a lovely bunch, nothing was too much trouble for them. The shop is filled with an array of wonderfully creative items (I happily spent a fortune)!

In a nut shell, The Gather is reasonably priced, beautifully set, and we genuinely cannot wait to get back! My name is Nikki and our family has had the best time ever!
